This is one of my favorite stitch patterns. I used the base of this pattern, recently, in Heidi, for one of the color blocks. It’s so soft and subtle, yet, creates a delicate interest. Because this pattern is worked in sets of six, it is adaptable to any knit piece. The pattern also uses only Knit and Purl stitches, making it quick and easy to knit.
Diagonal Lines
Using any set of needles, Cast On in sets of 6 Row1: Purl 1, Knit 5 Row2: Purl 4, Knit 1, Purl 1 Row3: Knit 2, Purl 1, Knit 3 Row4: Purl 2, Knit 1, Purl 3 Row5: Knit 4, Purl 1, Knit 1 Row6: Knit 1, Purl 5 Repeat rows 1-6 until the piece is desired length.

Hello,
For this Diagonal Lines pattern, should Row 4 actually be P2, K1, K3? I’d like to try this but wanted to make sure before starting!
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Lisa,
Row 4 is P2, K1, P3. This keeps the diagonal as a single stitch throughout the pattern.
